Ingredients
Scale
2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions, divided
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 1.5-quart baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
Stir in 1 cup of the crispy fried onions into the green bean mixture.
Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of crispy fried onions over the top.
Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is hot throughout.
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
You can prepare this creamy green bean casserole up to one day ahead. Cover and refrigerate before baking. Add about 10 minutes to the initial bake time if baking from cold.
For a Southern green bean casserole variation, substitute the milk with 1/2 cup of sour cream for extra richness.
If you want to make this green bean casserole from scratch, replace the condensed soup with a homemade roux-based mushroom sauce.
