Create a flavorful, classic Italian-style pizza sauce using simple pantry staples. This no-cook recipe is fast, reliable, and tastes better than store-bought options for your next pizza night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes (San Marzano preferred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Drain the canned tomatoes, reserving the liquid. Place the whole tomatoes into a bowl.
  2. Crush the tomatoes by hand or use an immersion blender briefly until you reach a slightly chunky consistency. Do not over-process; you want texture.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, and olive oil into the crushed tomatoes.
  4. If the sauce seems too thick, add one tablespoon of the reserved tomato liquid at a time until you reach your preferred spreading consistency.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or pepper as needed. This homemade pizza sauce is ready to use immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

  • For a New York Style sauce, you can simmer this mixture for 20 minutes to deepen the flavor, though this recipe is designed to be no-cook for speed.
  • This sauce keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Use high-quality canned tomatoes, such as San Marzano, for the best authentic Italian flavor.
