Ingredients
Scale
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk, warmed
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, packed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
Instructions
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to create a roux.
Slowly whisk in the warm milk until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken.
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
Continue to cook, stirring often, until the sauce is smooth and thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Remove from heat. Use immediately as a base for your pizza or store it for later use.
Notes
For an extra rich creamy pizza topping, substitute half of the milk with cream cheese, softened, adding it in step 4 until fully melted and smooth.
This sauce works well as a base for spinach pizza white sauce or chicken pizza.
You can substitute the butter with garlic butter for a deeper flavor profile.
