Create a classic, creamy ham salad spread perfect for using leftover ham. This easy recipe delivers the tangy, savory flavor you remember, ideal for sandwiches or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely diced or pulsed
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 hard-boiled egg, chopped

Instructions

  1. Place the finely diced or pulsed ham into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, celery, Dijon mustard, onion powder, and black pepper to the bowl. If using, add the chopped hard-boiled egg now.
  3. Mix all ingredients together until they are fully combined and the mixture is creamy. Do not overmix; you want some texture remaining.
  4. Taste the ham salad and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the ham salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld.
  6. Serve the creamy ham salad on bread for a sandwich, with crackers, or alongside celery sticks.

Notes

  • For the best texture, pulse the ham in a food processor briefly rather than grinding it completely smooth.
  • This ham salad keeps well for up to four days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Use high-quality deli ham or leftover holiday ham for the best flavor in this sandwich filling recipe.
